Somewhere Between Love and Silence

A little note from a heart that needs room to breathe. Some days, even the quiet feels heavy, and the simplest things take more than they should. Too many voices, too many expectations, too many moving pieces to hold together. I have always loved being the one who cares, who reaches out, who offers a hand, who wants to make things better, who wants to be present, to understand. But somewhere along the way, I began wondering where my presence belongs. Am I helping, or am I pushing? Am I needed, or simply trying too hard? I give, I offer, I make room, yet sometimes the smallest acknowledgement feels further away than ever. At work, I search for my place, a space where my thoughts can take flight, where my ideas have somewhere to land, where I can contribute without questioning whether I should have spoken at all. At home, love is everywhere, in little footsteps, familiar voices, in the people I once longed to have close. Yet love, too, comes with its many rhythms, its habits, its needs, its endless responsibilities. And even the sweetest moments can feel overwhelming when the heart is tired. I don't want less love. I don't want fewer people to care for. I don't want to stop showing up. I simply wish I didn't have to carry so many things at once. Perhaps that's why I have grown fond of silence. A quiet drive, a slow walk, the warmth of a familiar scent, a little time with no questions waiting, no expectations knocking at the door. I want to breathe without rushing, to listen to music without thinking of tomorrow, to watch the world go by, to find myself somewhere between the noise of living and the beauty of being. I don't need someone to fix everything. I don't need another list of things to do, or another reminder to be stronger. Sometimes I just need someone to sit beside me, to listen without judgement, to understand without offering answers. Because even the ones who hold everything together sometimes need a hand to hold. I still believe in kindness. I still want to love deeply, help freely, and be there for the people who matter. But I am learning that my peace matters too, that stepping back is not giving up, and that taking a breath is not a weakness. For now, I want a little distance from the noise, a change of scenery, unfamiliar roads, new conversations, perhaps a little adventure, and enough stillness to hear my own thoughts again. Not to leave the people I love, but to return to myself. I am not asking life to become effortless. I am only asking for a little gentleness, a little understanding, and a place where I don't always have to be the one who understands everything. Because I have so much love left to give. I just need a little space to feel loved, a little strength to begin again, and someone who will listen when I finally stop saying I'm okay.
